Cantine Caviro inaugurates a new automatic warehouse at the Group’s headquarters in Forlì

Technology, innovation, attention to the environment at the service of the wine world to increase efficiency and competitiveness.

Forlì, 4th March 2024 – This morning, Cantine Caviro inaugurated a new automatic warehouse at its site in Via Zampeschi, Forlì. This new investment, of over 11 million eurosautomates the movement of packaging from the warehouse to the packaging lines, significantly improving the efficiency and competitiveness of the site, which, every year, produces over 150 million cartons, 4 million bag-in-boxes, and 69 million bottles.

The ribbon-cutting cerimony took place in the presence of the Mayor of Forlì, Gian Luca Zattini, and the Regional Councillor for Economic Development, Vincenzo Colla.

Completed in 2024, this is the third automatic warehouse on the Forlì site, with a capacity of 10,000 pallet places, for the storage of materials such as bottles, cartons, caps and corks, as well as the finished product. It boasts a surface area of 2,600 m², with 28 metre-high self-supporting shelving. The new warehouse adds to the 2 existing automatic warehouses, built in 2001 and 2017, and therefore takes the total storage capacity up to approximately 30,000 pallet spaces.

With the use of precision technology, the new automatic warehouse promises greater efficiency and safety; it will accelerate the management of storage activities and guarantee the tracking of units. The system comprises 4 stacker cranes and 3 automatic laser-guided vehicles (LGVs), and can handle 5 different types of pallets at a rate of up to 200 pallets per hour.

Furthermore, the internalization of the activity is driving the training and specialization of the workers involved, and will lead to a reduction in the movement of heavy vehicles from external platforms, and therefore in CO₂ emissions.

With 175 million litres of wine sold annually in Italy and exported to over 80 countries around the world, Caviro is the largest winery in Italy, with a portfolio of brands and products in various price ranges, from daily to vintage wines, and this investment confirms the group’s commitment to promptly responding to the market and paying constant attention to innovation.

Despite the difficult times for the wine world, the investment plan is moving forward,” comments Giampaolo Bassetti, Caviro Group General Manager, “In addition to this new warehouse, other important investments are in progress, which will affect not only the Forlì site, but also that of Savignano. All the projects have sustainability in common: economic sustainability, in guaranteeing greater competitiveness and efficiency savings; social sustainability, in adding safety, traceability and more trained and specialized personnel; and environmental sustainability, in reducing impacts and the carbon footprint.

The investment is part of the National Industry 4.0 Plan Development Contract with the Regional Project “Legàmi di Vite”, involving Caviro Group, Agrintesa, Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara, Terre Cevico, Le Romagnole, Medici Ermete, and Cantine Riunite & Civ.
